LEVEL 1 INSPECTION

This inspection is recommended when the chimney and venting system is easily accessible and when the homeowner is planning to maintain its current use. In general, this level of inspection is performed in most homes. In a Level I inspection a professional chimney sweep verifies that the chimney structure is sound and that the chimney is free of obstructions and combustible deposits, such as creosote.Level one inspection is preformed on every chimney / fireplace cleaning that Chimney depot does.

LEVEL 2 INSPECTION

Adding a new home heating appliance or changing the type of fuel requires a Level 2 inspection. This inspection is also required upon property sale, transfer, or after an event likely causing chimney damage. The scope of a Level 2 inspection includes everything that Level I inspection plus the inspection of accessible portions of the attics, crawl spaces and basements.Level 2 includes a video scan of the lining system of the chimney structure.Level 2 may also include a performance test such as a smoke test or a pressure test.
